AXPC Congratulates Administrator Michael Regan on his Bipartisan Confirmation

WASHINGTON  – The American Exploration and Production Council congratulated Michael Regan on his bipartisan confirmation to serve as the next Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

“We want to congratulate EPA Administrator Regan on his bipartisan confirmation to lead EPA and hope to work with him and his Agency as partners in protecting our air, land, and water.   Our industry is committed to environmental protection and is proud of the innovative solutions we have developed to reduce emissions, and conserve and reuse water,” said AXPC CEO Anne Bradbury.

During his Senate confirmation Hearing and in his responses to the Senate EPW Committee, Michael Regan expressed a commitment to protecting both the environment and American jobs, and the importance of working closely with state agencies and convening stakeholders impacted by regulatory decisions:

    • With regard to methane, he committed to “convening all parties relevant to this discussion to forge a path forward on methane emissions. The process will be transparent, and the Agency’s decision will be based on the best science, engineering, and data available and informed by robust engagement with states, tribes, and other stakeholders.”
    • He recognized the “enormous strides in technological advances” that have been made to protect our environment.
    • And, he said that “regions and states know their constituents much better than the federal government ever could.”

“American oil and gas producers have an irreplaceable role in meeting the challenge of global climate change,” said Bradbury.

The historic reductions in U.S. greenhouse gas emissions over the last decade have been driven by the emergence of U.S. natural gas production as a low-cost source of reliable energy. It is important that regulatory policy enables us to build on that success.

AXPC companies are focused on reducing methane emissions from their operations and support effective and reasonable regulation of methane that balances the essential value of U.S. oil and natural gas production with the global challenge of addressing climate change. Consistent with our Climate Policy and Principles, AXPC companies believe collaboration amongst policy makers and industry partners is needed to find solutions that will meaningfully drive down emissions, while allowing US independent producers to meet the global demand for affordable and reliable oil and natural gas.
